Safe and Natural Treatments For Equine Neurologic Diseases

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

Most neurologic diseases look the same symptomatically and are very difficult and costly to diagnose. Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) for example is caused by a horse ingesting feed contaminated by protozoa.  The protozoa comes from opossum droppings that have infected the feed, hay or water.Overuse of vaccines, collectively termed “Vaccinosis”, can also cause symptoms of neurologic dysfunction.  These symptoms are often misdiagnosed and can be permanent.

A natural supplement to support your horse’s immune and neurologic systems is Colloidal Silver.  It is non-toxic, a natural disinfectant and anti-infective (antibacterial, antiviral, antiprotozal) with no side-effects.  Colloidal Silver is also safe to use with other medications.

Another option is DePaolo Equine Concepts’ Neurologic Kit.  This kit was created as a more aggressive treatment for neurologic disorders.  The Neuro Kit was designed to provide a nutraceutical supplements to help the body maintain normal neurologic function during times of stress. This is a completely holistic horse treatment that can be used in conjunction with other types of treatment prescribed by your veterinarian.  The Neurologic Kit has been used in field trials to help many horses who either didn’t respond to treatment with drugs or who were plagued with chronic relapses.

The Neurologic Kit consists of three key supplements designed to promote optimum health. The cornerstone of the Kit is Colloidal Silver, which has been associated with natural anti-infectives. The second piece of the Kit is a powerful immune booster, ABC’s  Chvel. It promotes proper digestion, supports the immune system, and encourages normal immune response to allergens.  A healthy immune system is imperative to having a healthy horse.  The third nutraceutical in the Kit is ABC’s EPM Supplement. It is formulated  with Vitamin E and Choline, to encourage proper neurologic function.

Many veterinarians suggest horses undergoing treatment for EPM, or any neurologic issue, be supplemented with Vitamin E to support their muscle and nervous tissue. Neurologic diseases look the same symptomatically and are very difficult and costly to diagnose. There are no negative side effects associated with this Kit, making it a great option for horses whose causative agent has not yet been identified.

A healthy neurologic system is discussed in the DEC Health Library under the Neurologic and Vaccination categories.

I was wondering if you’ve treated any horses with stringhalt? Did you use this kit? What were the results? Or what are your reccomendations for a horse with stringhalt? I used to own a Thoroughbred gelding with stringhalt who had been put out to pasture that contained false dandelion or catsear and then he began showing small changes in both hind legs until it was so bad he’d kick his stomach! We removed him from the pasture and waited two years with no changes. He moved to a new family who were supposedly going to try the surgical approach, but I never heard from them how that worked out. Any information on this would be appreciated!
