Q&A with the owners of Longhorn Jean Company
Longhorn Jean Company (LJC) was created by Matt and Amanda Kimes in March 2009. The husband and wife duo were unhappy with the current denim market and simply thought they could create a better jean. LJC is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The jeans are proudly made in America. Meet the designers and learn what makes LJC so great!
Are Longhorn Jeans for riding horses?
Matt and I both grew up raising and showing American Quarter Horses. Growing up in this industry, we both lived in denim. We were tired of having jeans to go ride in and jeans to “go out” on the town in. We decided there was a niche to bridge the gap. We wanted something durable, yet stylish. A jean you could wear to ride in all day, and if you simply change from boots to a pair of dress shoes the jeans could take you out to dinner.
Do you sell primarily to “horsey” people?
W started out within the horse industry, simply because we knew we would have an audience. But, as the company grew, so did our market. Today, most of our jeans are sold to people who have never been on a horse.
How did you come up with the styles?
We like to create “classic” styles and fit. We try to stay away from all of the distressing and heavy embellishments. We like simple and dark washes, and excellent denim. When creating a new style, we look at current trends and trends from the past. We draw a lot of inspiration from the 40’s and 50’s.
Are all your jeans made in the U.S.A.?
Yes, we are very proud of the fact that every jean we create comes out of the USA! We even go so far to use American Denim, Zippers, Thread and Tagging.
What makes your jeans ‘different’?
Well first and foremost, we are one of the few American made denim lines. Anymore, mostly your premium denim (Jeans $150 and up) are created stateside. Most other lines are created elsewhere. We have outstanding quality. We only use the best denim, and the people who sew and help create our jeans are some of the best in the business.
We spent countless hours on our fit. If it isn’t right, we fix it. We take into consideration that people are all different shapes and sizes, and we do our best to accommodate everyone.
What are your most popular styles?
Our number one women’s seller is The Betty. This was the first women’s style created. This jean has an amazing fit and truly does fit everyone. This is the jean people come back to buy again and again.
Our number one men’s seller is The Barney. The Barney is also our first men’s style created. This jean is durable and stylish. The Barney fits most men, and they can’t seem to get enough.
