Silly stuff for Halloween

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

In our quest for the perfect Halloween costumes for 2011 we started thinking about horse costumes (as if we actually have somewhere to take our horses on Halloween).  Regardless,  there are tons of outfits out there for dogs: hotdog costumes – both with and without mustard, bumblebees, Santa, Yoda, Elvis..and the list goes on.  They are even selling dog costumes at mainstream stores like Target (98 choices online to be exact).  Horses though? Looks like it is DIY if you want to dress your horse up for Halloween.

So we started scouring the internet for great ideas.  Honestly the best idea we came across is to make sure you incorporate a helmet cover to your costume — better safe than sorry, right?  We came across tons of Native American costumes, medieval knights, unicorns, zebras…blah blah blah.  If you are going to put your horse through the humiliation of being dressed up for Halloween, there are two rules:

  1. BE ORIGINAL
  2. YOU HAVE TO DRESS UP TOO!

Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

Dorothy and the lion (which could be changed out for Toto, the Tinman etc.)
Gumby and Pokey:
Scooby Do (then depending on your body type you could accompany him as one of the other characters):
Dragon & Dragon Slayer (might only be cute under the age of 7, could be kinda Dungeons and Dragons creepy for adults):
Lil Bo Peep and her ‘lost’ sheep:
So if you have any other ideas, pictures or inspirations, please share.  Debating on trying Snooky’s poof in my horse’s forelock but would that mean that I had to go shirtless as the Situation?
