The hottest thing in LA is a braid bar…Hey, we can do that!

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

So a while back Hair Blow Out Bars were popping up all over Southern California.  No cuts….No color….just a shampoo and blowdry.  Keeping with the ‘bar’ theme they had kitchy names for each style.  Names like the Manhattan-which is sleek and smooth, Southern Comfort-big hair, lots of volume, Mai Tai-messy beach hair and so on.

Now that has become old news in La La Land and the new twisted trend is the Braid Bar.  Swanky hair salon Nine Zero One in West Hollywood offers a $25 braid, $40 shampoo and braid or a $100 shampoo, blow out and braid.

Don’t fret if you are an East Coaster, the world famous John Barrett Salon (located in Bergdorf Goodman) offers Barrett’s Braid Bar if you are looking for “Undone braided, pigtails, whimsical milkmaid braids, fishtail braided side ponytails, small french braided updo’s and more.”  The prices range from $45 to $125 depending on what you are looking for.

You might be asking what this has to do with horses?  Personally I think equestrians have been hanging out in braid bars (or barns as we call them) for ages….

Do you braid your horse’s main or tail up after a good shampoo to keep it clean at home?

Do you braid your horse’s tail nice and neat for a show?

Do you stand around gossiping with your braider late at night before a big event?

Do you try something new and different just because?

Do you braid your horse’s mane for a special event or costume class?

Well…Thats all I’m saying.  Any horse lover should know how to braid hair.  Practice on a mane, tail or forelock then charge your friends $100 to give them the hippest look in town!
