Where the wild west meets beach Barbie

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

Tomorrow is opening day at the Orange County Fair.  Since most of our blog readers don’t live in Southern California we thought we would bring some OC to you.  I frequently write for the DEC blog and live in Orange County.  Although you may think since I am truly a housewife of the OC that you and I may not have much in common but nothing could be further from the truth.  What’s the saying…You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl?

And so arrive the OC Fair.  Every year it falls during my anniversary so I drag my husband to the Fair to celebrate our marital bliss over deep fried oreos, pig races and great music.  From Willie Nelson to “Weird Al” Yankovic, the OC Fair brings in a wide array of musicians to play during the month.  Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Earth Wind & Fire and Tears for Fears round out the line up.

If you prefer action sports to music, there is plenty to go around.  Moto-X, demolition derbies, bull riding and MMA are all regularly scheduled events at the fair both during the week and on the weekend.  Maybe watching The Extreme Pogo Championships is on your bucket list?  Probably not but just incase, you can check it out at XPogo.com.  Of course food, games, exhibits and shopping also round out the fair.

I will be heading to the fair with my family at some point in the next few weeks and I plan on writing a follow up post to this one with exactly what I have discovered this year at the Orange County Fair.  Chocolate dipped bacon anyone?

See you at the fair,

Carter
