EPM Supplement for horses

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

Many veterinarians suggest horses undergoing treatment for EPM, or any neurologic issue, be supplemented with Vitamin E to support their muscle and nervous tissue. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals, the damaging by-products of normal cellular activity.

Choline is also recommended for supporting a healthy nervous system. Choline is a component of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. Acetylcholine carries messages between neurons, which enables the brain to communicate with itself and the rest of the body. It also has roles in motor behavior, memory, concentration, amino acid conversion, the transportation of materials across cell membranes, the metabolism of fat in the liver, and is essential in keeping mucous membranes properly moistened.

Dr. Mark recommends EPM supplement for horses struggling with EPM, ataxia, West Nile Virus, EHV-1, Lyme Disease or any other neurologic disorder because it contains both of the above ingredients. EPM Supplement was formulated to encourage proper neurologic function. The nutraceuticals in this supplement are combined to promote normal nerve cell activity. EPM Supplement may be used with any drug protocol without any negative side effects.

Diet is key to a healthy immune system, which is discussed in the Health Library under the Nutrition category. It is also important to not over-vaccinate, and in particular to not vaccinate a sick horse or in the face of an outbreak. Read more in the Vaccination articles.
