A complete vitamin and mineral supplement for your horse

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

“As a horse owner myself, I recognize how hard it is to find a complete supplement that has everything that your horse needs without a bunch of additives that your horse is better off without,” explains Mark DePaolo, DVM.

Essential Vitamin and Mineral Supplement was specifically formulated with the proper ratios of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, prebiotics, probiotics and electrolytes to promote the overall health of your horse.  It can help improve:

  • Immune function
  • Provide digestive support
  • Grow strong hooves
  • Aid in muscle function

Essential is ideal for all life stages of horses.

Dr. DePaolo feels the most important ingredient in Essential is Lysine.  It stops the replication of certain viruses, which helps prevent Rhino and neurologic herpes virus.  Coupled with Vitamin C it acts as a powerful immune booster.  The specific combination of high quality lysine with biotin, methionine and sulfur supports strong, healthy, fast growing hooves.  Essential contains high enough levels of lysine to assist in stabilizing blood cortisol levels.

He goes on to say, “In my practice I see so many horses that are selenium deficient.  Many owners complain about their horses showing symptoms of body soreness, tying up, resistance to exercise and colic.  Essential is formulated using only Selenium Yeast, the most Bio-available form of all Selenium Sources.”

Brewer’s Yeast is another key ingredient.  Two important benefits of feeding it are: Better Digestion and Improved Immune function.  Brewer’s yeast is high in the mineral Chromium which is very important in the stabilization of blood sugar levels.

Essential is pelleted and mixed with small amounts of alfalfa for increased palatability.  This makes it easier for owners with endocrine compromised horses by eliminating the need to hide supplements in any type of “grain”.

essential-for-web_final_largeWhat is left out of Essential is as important, if not more important than what is included!  There is no:

  1. Soy
  2. Wheat Middlings
  3. Molasses
  4. Grains
  5. Processed Grain By-Products
  6. Fillers
  7. Allergens
  8. Sugars

Is iron added to this product or is it naturally occurring. Why is mineral oil added, a petroleum product? Thanks, Kathy

    • Yes, iron is added. A very small amount of mineral oil is added to keep the dust down during the pelleting process. Thank you for your inquiry.

Thanks for the information. Iron is high in many of the areas of our country. Research has sown that Iron overload is an issue especially with IR horses. Added iron is not a good thing in my mind. It is already in commercial feeds and every supplement out there. Your product would be more appealing without the added iron.

      • Thank you for your comments. It is important to make sure that the iron in the feed is bio-available. So many feeds have iron that is bio-unavailable thus causing a toxicity in horses. Our supplements use only bio-available vitamins and minerals and we have had great results. With our personalized Horse Hair Analysis supplement if we find a horse does not need iron, we don’t add it. If we find a horse has an iron toxicity, we chelate to get the levels back to normal.

Horse are non-ruminant herbivores of a kind known as a “hindgut fermenter.” This implies that horses have only one abdomen, as do people. So your details really beneficial for me.
