Helping your horse have a relaxed mental attitude

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

Feeling drowsy after eating copious amounts of turkey is rumored to be caused by the high levels of Tryptophan in the meat.  Although many dispel these thoughts and explain the sleepiness to be a result of over indulgence at a Thanksgiving feast, L-Tryptophan itself has been proven to be a calming agent in both people and animals.

This essential amino acid is the precursor for serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain.  Serotonin is considered the feel good hormone.  Increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain  promote a feeling of wellbeing and calm in some horses thus lessening:

  • aggression
  • fear
  • apprehension
  • lack of focus

Tranquility™ is formulated to help horses that exhibit extreme signs of nervousness and anxiety in stressful situations.  It is also suggested for horses in rehabilitation, injured horses on stall rest or horses that stall walk, weave or crib. This supplement encourages a relaxed mental attitude, which may reduce the mental stress of confinement.
