Horse Hair Analysis Personal Supplement for musculoskeletal issues

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

Horse hair analysis (HHA) has been used to formulate dietary supplementation and treat horses with a wide variety of disorders. Dr. Mark has found that most horses have multiple issues and many horses with musculoskeletal disorders have other problems that are even more pressing. The HHA Personal Supplement™ is formulated to holistically treat the whole horse, not just the musculoskeletal problem.

When hair samples from a group of horses that were suffering from musculoskeletal issues were evaluated, the two most commonly deficient elements were manganese and iron.  Manganese is a key ingredient in energy production and glucose tolerance. Manganese is necessary for carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.{Nielsen, 2009 #5019} It is used in the synthesis of chondroitin sulfate and formation of cartilage{Nielsen, 2009 #5019} and is used during the growth and repair of tendons, ligaments, and bones. Manganese is important in the synthesis of neurotransmitters and in thyroid and adrenal function. It is also important in protecting cells from free radical damage since it activates a free radical scavenger, superoxide dismutase.{Watts, 2010 #5021}.

Iron is a key ingredient in cellular energy production, enzyme function, thyroid function, and removal of harmful free radicals. Iron plays a key role in the making of red blood cells, which carry oxygen through the body and help keep the immune system healthy. Since thyroid and adrenal glands have a reciprocal relationship, iron status may effect adrenal activity.{Watts, 2010 #5021}

General equine practitioners do not typically consider iron deficiency unless chronic blood loss, usually from parasitism, is suspected,{Ralston, 2010 #5018} but we often find hair samples with low levels.  Feeds that are high in iron include rice bran and yeast.

Which brings us to Dr. Mark’s formulation of the Personal Supplement based on the Horse Hair Analysis results.  The HHA Personal Supplement™ will assist in bringing the deficient levels of vitamins and minerals into a healthier range. The only way to improve deficiencies is to increase the levels of key vitamins and minerals with bio-available supplementation.  The HHA Personal Supplement™ contains a 160 day supply, and prices vary from $85 to $150 based on the ingredients required from the test results.
