Happy trails

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

roadMatt Littrell, a former Marine infantryman traveled by horseback from Camp Lejeune NC to Camp Pendleton CA to raise money for wounded veterans.  His horse started on May 1st with his hooves in the Atlantic and travelled across the country before ending in the Pacific Ocean on November 30th.  This was all a way to raise awareness for veterans suffering from PTSD.

Littrell had a string of horses that he rotated through to keep them fresh and sound stopping at almost 100 locations through the journey.  He remarked that ‘Crow’, a mustang, was his favorite.  He was the wildest one but he reminded Littrell of himself.

Statistics show there are roughly 22 servicemen, active or retired committing suicide a day. Littrell was once on the brink of suicide himself and knew he had to do something about it to raise awareness.  You can visit his Facebook page to see a great chronicle of his journey or visit the Semper Fi Fund to donate money to his cause.

tunnelLittrell is back in his home state of Colorado and will continue to shoe horses because thats what he loves to do.  He has plans to write a book and possibly do some veteran therapy with mustangs.
