Feeding A Horse With A Neurologic Disease

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

When feeding a horse with a neurologic disease, there are several things you can do to help insure your horse is getting the right nutrition and that he is able to do it safely and comfortably.

Feeding in a hay net or on top of a raised surface is recommended since horses with neurologic diseases have trouble balancing especially when they lower their head.  For horses with severe cases, food and water should be kept close together as these horses are hesitant to move around due to their lack of balance.

Proper supplementation is also imperative to help boost your neuro horse’s natural immune system.  Along with a superior vitamin and mineral supplement, such as Essential, you should feed specifically for the disorder at hand.

The Neurologic Kit is a great supplement to combat neurologic diseases and to fight off infectious organisms being hosted by the body.  Specific elements in the kit boost the immune system and regenerate damaged nerves.

Neurologic diseases are potentially permanent so helping your horse be as healthy and comfortable as possible is very important as a responsible horse owner.
