Selenium Is Essential For Horses

by DePaolo Equine Concepts

The mineral, selenium, is a great anti-inflammatory and anti-viral.  It has high anti-oxidant properties.  Although humans get selenium from certain nuts, fish and eggs, horses need to obtain it through supplementation because a large majority of the country does not have high enough levels of Selenium in forage to meet the dietary requirements of horses.

If you are looking for an all-around vitamin and mineral supplement containing selenium, Essential™ contains a bio-available form than is better than what is found in most equine supplements.

Another option is to do a Horse Hair Analysis which is a cutting edge lab test and customized analysis report showing the last 90 day average of the vitamins and minerals that actually made it into the hair which directly correlates to what the rest of the body’s tissues were able to metabolize.

It is important to know that selenium absorption is increased by the inclusion of Vitamin E.  They are an important combination to support proper musculoskeletal health and a normal functioning neurologic system.
